Young Irish showjumper selected for young riders academy

Wexford's Bertram Allen was selected into the Athenaeum Young Riders Academy 2014, this is a new program designed to nurture Europes most talented young showjumpers.

This spring 29 riders aged between 18-23 were shortlisted for further evaluation, this included looking at their attitude, ability, competition results and profiles, this list included two Irish riders. The prize is a six month placement at a top rider's yard and includes education in business and economics, communication, veterinary and legal practice related to the sport. Breido Graf zu Rantzau of Athenaeum, which is a non profit organisation said "This project represents a completely new concept for promising riders with a broad formula to help future professionals" Bertram is already based at the top German rider Marcus Ehningǽ??????s yard, where he will stay, but will benefit from the programǽ??????s educational and shows activities. ǽ?????I am looking forward to working with the expertise of such a knowledgeable group,ǽ????? said Bertram. He comes from a family who are all into horses, his younger brother Harry also a keen rider and his father once trained race horses in Ireland. Bertram was recently named ǽ?????Best Rider of Jumping Amsterdamǽ??????. Irish top rider Billy Twomey helped train Allen before his move to Germany.
